A tree has been planted in memory of a popular and well-respected Labour politician.

Family, friends and colleagues of the late David Robinson, who passed away in May 2014, met at his beloved Boughton Hall Cricket Club for the planting of the tree, which is positioned between the canal towpath and the back of the cricket pitch.

Its location was chosen by Mr Robinson’s wife Monica because it reflects his passions for cricket, cycling and walking.

City of Chester MP Chris Matheson made a speech in which he recalled an occasion when he helped Mr Robinson and members of the community to plant a tree at the Neville Road play area in Boughton.

Mr Matheson said: “David was always keen to enable people to do things for themselves.

“He planted a seed in this community and let it grow, much like we are doing with this tree in his honour.”

Justin Madders, MP for Ellesmere Port and Neston, Cheshire West and Chester Council leader Samantha Dixon and Boughton ward councillor Martyn Delaney were also in attendance.

Mr Robinson is remembered for his pleasant manner and devotion to community issues and the environment.
