Travellers have set up an ‘unauthorised’ camp at a site in Blacon .

But the group are already being threatened with eviction by the council.

A convoy of seven caravans plus accompanying cars and horseboxes arrived at Shelley Road on Sunday (August 7).

They have brought with them four horses which could be seen grazing on the green space.

Cheshire West and Chester Council said they had already conducted an assessment of the site and had started the ‘formal process’ towards an eviction notice.

CWaC senior Gypsy and Traveller liaison officer Kyler Ashcroft said: “We are aware of an unauthorised encampment of seven caravans on Shelley Road in Blacon, which was reported to police on the evening of August 7.

“An assessment has today been conducted and the formal process to evict the group is under way.”

Concerned residents contacted the Chronicle soon after the Travellers’ arrival.

One woman was worried about a royal plaque which lies on the site.

A 16-caravan convoy had to be evicted from a playing field at Westminster Park in Chester last month.

On that occasion it took less than a day for the legal notice, which gave the group a further 24 hours to leave to be served.
