Traffic lights have failed at the junction of the A49 and A533 near Northwich.
Congestion had built up on the Warrington Road at Tall Trees on Wednesday morning (January 27).
Long queues northbound on the A49 have formed through Bartington and as far as Weaverham.
Cheshire Police said officers had attended to help the Highways Agency, who dealt with the faulty lights.
They have also advised motorists to drive safely and avoid the area if possible.
