Tiverton District Garden Club staged a successful Autumn Show with 263 high quality entries from 33 competitors in 72 open classes.

Fruit and vegetables, floral art, junior section and cookery classes were especially well-supported, as were the new classes for handicrafts. This resulted in a colourful display in the village hall.

The trophies were awarded as follows:

M Spooner - President’s Cup (most first prizes in show)

D Peel - Challenge Cup for runner-up

M Spooner - Audrey Povall Trophy (best exhibit in roses)

I Swaffield - Fothergill Trophy (best exhibit in dahlias)

M Spooner - Ede Goddard Trophy (best exhibit in flowers general)

D Peel - J Lee Trophy (most first prizes in fruit and vegetables)

M Spooner - G Howell Memorial Shield (best exhibit in pot plants)

I Spooner - Junior Cup (best exhibit in junior section)

M Coker - Autumn Silver Cup (best exhibit in cookery)

A Smart - £5 club prize for most first prizes in cookery

M Evans - Jean Brown Trophy (best exhibit in photography from spring and autumn shows)

The presentations of the trophies by Eric Wright, club president, were followed by a lively auction of the produce, conducted by Jeff Spooner, and a raffle, both of which raised funds for the club.

Club meetings are held at Tiverton Village Hall on the first Tuesday of each month at 8pm, and everyone is welcome to come along, either to join or as a visitor.

The next meeting is on October 7 and is an illustrated talk about gardening under glass by Sue Nicholas from Deeside College.
