THE first fruit, flower and vegetable show to be held at Tilston Wakes attracted a good number of local entries.

The judging was done by experienced judges Alan Bourne and Paul Philpotts from Threapwood.

The runaway overall winner with 11 first class awards was Diane Jones of Inveresk Road, Tilston whose awards included Best Rose, Best Vase of Flowers, Best Geranium and awards for potatoes and tomatoes.

The Best Onions were grown by Joe Rowlands and the Best Plums by Rose Weaver.

The Best Runner Beans prize went to Terry Walker, this year’s Lord Mayor, while second prizes went to Gail Graham and John Bird (the Lord Mayor from 1965).

The Biennial Parish Council Garden Competition took place this year and the certificates were awarded at Tilston Wakes.

The results of the Parish Council Garden Competition were:

Best Small Garden – 1 Diane Jones, 2 Gemma Nash, 3 Wendy Crutchley.

Best Basket/Planter – 1 Joe Rowlands, 2 Diane Jones, 3 Zoe Smith, Highly Commended Cameron Dodd.

Best Veg Garden – 1 Clowes Family, 2 Gail Graham, 3 Joe Rowlands.

Best Greenhouse – Diane Jones.

Best Lawn – Wendy Crutchley.

Best Front Garden – 1 Wendy Crutchley, 2 Diane Jones, 3 Joe Rowlands.

Best Large Garden – Joint 1 Mr and Mrs A Donovan and Mr and Mrs N Ritchie.

Best Garden Champion – Mr and Mrs N Ritchie.
