CITY arts organisation Chester Performs has announced tickets for the summer’s highly anticipated Grosvenor Park Open Air Theatre will go on sale tomorrow (Friday, March 1).

The critically acclaimed theatre is to return for its fourth year from July 5-August 25 – an extended run of eight weeks.

The summer season will include three productions:

Shakespeare’s ultimate romantic comedy A Midsummer Night’s Dream;

Glyn Maxwell’s new adaptation of the ‘swashbuckling’ Cyrano de Bergerac;

Shakespeare’s tragedy of passion, Othello.

Andrew Bentley of Chester Performs said: “This year sees a new dimension to our programming. We’ve only ever performed comedy to our audience so Othello is sure to add something different to the experience.

“We believe the drama of being outdoors, and a very different set to previous years, will excite our audiences.”

The unique outdoor theatre has established itself as one of the country’s leading open air theatre companies, and organisers hope the season will attract even more theatregoers than the 10,000 who attended during 2012.

Andrew added: “As in previous years, it always pays to book early. The theatre operates an `airline-style’ pricing policy which means that prices rise according to demand.

“Tickets start at just £12.50, the same as two years ago. We’ve always made it clear that families with children are welcome to our theatre, and we believe the informal, open air setting is the perfect environment to introduce kids to theatre and Shakespeare, that’s why this year we have made it so kids go free, with all under 12s paying nothing at all.”

Throughout July and August, a cast featuring some of the country’s leading actors will present 51 performances including evening and weekend matinees as well as the ever-popular Sunday lunchtime show.
