AN ICONIC red phone box has become the talking point of the village after it was bought for just £1.

After watching the landmark on Church Way, Alvanley fall into disrepair, members of Alvanley parish council have adopted their phone box from BT for just £1.

Councillors are appealing to residents to voice suitable suggestions on how to fill the box or it could be sold off to make money to improve the village.

Some of the suggestions proposed to the parish council include ideas inspired from other villages who have transformed their telephone boxes into book exchanges and plant exchanges.

Alvanley parish clerk Derek Bowker has said that they need residents to start suggesting ideas for the telephone box or it will have to be sold to prevent misuse.

“We haven't come up with anything ground breaking yet.

“These things are used across the country for all sorts of things, we have thought about it becoming a book exchange or plant exchange where people can leave money, but we really need people to say what they want it to become.”
