A 16-year-old boy has been airlifted to hospital following a serious assault in Neston earlier this afternoon (September 8).

The teenager is understood to have been 'wounded' in his back.

Now a police hunt to find the offender is under way, and Tannery Lane and Stanney Fields Park have been cordoned off.

Cheshire Constabulary revealed in a statement that officers were called to reports of a serious assault on Tannery Lane at 3.25pm.

"Officers arrived at the scene to find a 16-year-old boy had been wounded in his back. The air ambulance attended and transported him to hospital for treatment," it said.

"The area is currently cordoned off and police are trying to trace the offender."

The Chronicle has asked police to clarify what the nature of the wound is but the force says it is unable to provide any more information at this stage.
