A CHESTER teddy bear has been travelling the world to raise awareness for a group supporting the armed forces.

Corporal Horsa the bear is recovering in Kelsall following a trip to Afghanistan where he was accidently run over by a US jeep.

Susan Cawley, 50, from Kelsall, is looking after the bear after he was repaired at The Bear Factory in Chester.

The bear is part of the Sergeant Slingsby scheme, which works with Help Them Out to raise funds and awareness for military personnel.

Susan said: “We provide holidays for soldiers wounded in action and widows or families of soldiers killed in action. We also have a quick reaction force which helps those such as servicemen suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.”

She added: “There are six bears now, who are the public face of our work. The latest addition is a medic bear in Canada.”
