THE new John Lewis At Home store in Chester opened its doors to the city’s senior citizens.

As part of its ongoing commitment to working with the community, branch manager Mark Blundell hosted a Contact the Elderly tea party in the cafe.

Members of the Chester group, which is run by The Firs School, enjoyed an afternoon of cakes and hot drinks.

Mr Blundell said: “It was great to meet some more local residents and hope they all enjoyed themselves as much as we did.

Established in 1965, Contact the Elderly is the only national charity solely focused on tackling loneliness and isolation amongst the rapidly ageing UK population. The charity provides a regular and vital friendship link for older people aged over 75 through its monthly tea parties.

John Lewis at Home also runs a Community Matters scheme, which every three months donates money to three local community groups.
