THE first meeting of Scouts in Tarvin for more than a decade took place on Monday.

The village group closed in 2001 and since then the Scout hut has been used by the community.

Fears were raised during the recent Tarvin Parish Council meeting that the return of the Scout group would result in the youth club being evicted.

However, Chester and District Scout commissioner David Bull says that will not be the case.

He said: “The Scouts and Guides have no reason to see the youth club move out. We want to see the building used for the benefit of Tarvin generally, including the youth club, and see no reason why that shouldn’t continue.”

Tarvin Scouts say use of the building will need to be ‘co-ordinated carefully and fairly’.

The first meeting on Monday proved a success.

Simon Berry, with the support of Pam Holland, is running the activities for the Beaver Scouts, said: “We had a great first evening with 17 boys and girls enjoying themselves and finding out more about what being a Scout means.”

Jo Richards, who chairs the executive committee for Tarvin Scouts, added: “Scouting in Tarvin closed in 2001 but we have always wanted to bring it back.

“Now we have been able to do this, with the support of many people in the village.”

Tarvin Scouts depend on volunteer help and support from adults.
