A Tarvin man is undertaking a series of gruelling challenges in aid of a Northwich charity which supported his family during his son’s leukaemia treatment.

Dominic Doran has vowed to test his own endurance after being inspired by the courage shown by Xavier during his battle.

To raise money for The Joshua Tree and to highlight International Children’s Cancer Awareness Month in September, the devoted dad will take on several extreme endurance events starting with the Brutal Extreme Triathlon on September 10.

The race – which has been voted the world’s toughest long-distance triathlon – consists of a 2.4 mile swim, a challenging bike course stretching more than 112 miles and finishing with a marathon.

But there will not be much rest for Dominic, as the following weekend will see him take on the Sandstone Trail Off-Road Ultra Marathon, which features 3,000ft of climbing along the spine of Cheshire from Frodsham to Whitchurch.

Dominic, who has already completed the London Triathlon and the Chester Half Marathon this year, said: “In February 2013 my son Xavier was diagnosed with Leukaemia.

“Since then, every day he has undertaken an ultra-marathon of chemotherapy treatment something which requires incredible endurance.

“The definition of endurance is ‘the power to withstand pain or hardships; the ability or strength to continue despite fatigue, stress or other adverse conditions’ which aptly describes the resilience of Xavier and other children whilst undergoing cancer treatment.

“However, as with all endurance events support is important.

“Support for the kids and their families is essential to get through this extreme journey and that’s why I am undertaking my challenges in support of The Joshua Tree who have helped so many families in the same position as us.”

Sara Wheater from The Joshua Tree has praised ‘super supporter’ Dominic.

“We are in awe of our super supporter Dominic and all that he has achieved and the tough future challenges he has set himself for Xavier and the other 65 local families that we support who are experiencing childhood cancer,” she said.
