A TARPORLEY-BASED motorhome firm is going the extra mile for the Olympics by providing accommodation for the torch relay security team.
Staff at Your Motorhome, based on Huxley Lane, Tiverton, were thrilled to hear the company had been selected to provide luxury temporary homes for G4S Security, who will be accompanying the relay across the UK.
But things hit a snag when staff discovered they had just seven days before the national events kicked off, and realised all their vehicles had already been booked, with the only available replacements still on the production line 1,150 miles away in Italy.
With just 48 hours to go before the first relay, workers had to put their powers of persuasion to the test to ensure the homes were completed and transported to the UK.
Once back on British soil they were faced with the mammoth task of fitting out each home, but luckily crisis was averted when work was completed just in time for the first leg of the relay in Land’s End last week.
Nick Edwards from Your Motorhome, said: “We will always go the extra mile to make sure that Your Motorhome hire goes just perfectly.
“But on this occasion it did actually need 1,150 extra miles and a cross-continental dash to deliver the perfect motorhome hire!”
The motorhomes will provide a mobile office and luxury accommodation for the security team on their 70-day journey across the country.
