Tarporley was chosen to film scenes for ITV wartime drama Home Fires because it does not look dissimilar to a 1940s village.

The village high street experienced a small level of disruption on Monday morning when cast and crew from the popular show descended on it to film inside The Swan Hotel and a short scene on the street.

Filming of the show’s second series which stars Francesca Annis and Samantha Bond, started at 8am until 1pm and cars were temporarily detained during shooting while pedestrians were asked to be patient as cameras rolled on short scenes. The main cast members did not appear to be present during the filming on the street.

Most of the filming for this, the show’s second series and the first one, has been taking place in Bunbury , and a crew member told The Chronicle that both villages were chosen because they require little change on set, as both resemble a 1940s town.

“There is less for us to do as places like this have changed very little,” she said. “Aside from the obvious modern additions like cars, it does look like a wartime village.”

The show, which tells the story of a group of inspirational women bringing their rural village together, has been a ratings success for ITV with an average 6.2mn viewers and a 24% audience share on Sunday evenings.

Tarporley Parish Council clerk Ann Wright said last week that the council were all in support of the filming and were looking forward to it.
