Preparations are under way for this year’s Tarporley Carnival.

And in the spirit of the season, the theme of the annual extravanagza, held this Saturday, is Rio.

Mike Lloyd, president of Tarporley Rotary Club, said: “We’re really hoping for a special event this year to boost people’s spirits now that the World Cup and Wimbledon are over for us, and the school holidays are about to start.

“As well as being a great entertainment event it’s also a great fundraiser and we’re hoping to help the village raise at least 20,000 for the various charities and organisations we and they support.”

The streets have been decked with bunting and will throb to the sounds of the Karamba Samba Band beat when proceedings kick off at 12.30pm on Tarporley High Street.

Entertainment will be provided by Decibellas choir, The Rioters Jazz Band, and the Cheshire Dog Display team.

And there will also be a new event in the form of Tarporley Vics Football Keepy Uppy competition.
