PEOPLE from Cheshire looking to reduce their carbon footprint during the festive season are invited to Tarporley Garden Centre for advice on selecting a real Christmas tree.

The Cotebrook centre will be offering customers tips on selecting, caring for and disposing of their tree in an environmentally-friendly way from now until Christmas Eve.

Manager Neil MacWilliam said: “One of the benefits of having a real Christmas tree is that it can be better for the environment.

“Although they aren’t carbon neutral, Christmas trees help to reduce greenhouse gases by absorbing carbon dioxide while they are growing.

“They can also be recycled and turned into mulch, which can then be used on flower beds.

“We take great pride and care in sourcing the best quality cut and potted trees from sustainable nurseries. We stock a huge selection and offer expert advice to help people choose the right tree,” he added.

Tarporley Garden Centre stocks two varieties of Christmas trees: Nordman fir, which is shaped like a pyramid and has dark green needles, and Norway spruce – a fragrant tree with mid to dark green needles and strong branches.

Visitors will be able to get free advice on how to select and care for Christmas trees this yuletide as well as tips on how to look after your tree and avoid needle loss.
