As part of the 2016 celebrations to mark 100 years of Cub Scouts, the two packs in Tarporley set out to raise as much money as they could by filling 100 Smarties tubes with 20p pieces.

Having eaten the sweets, they began filling their empty tubes with coins earned for giving things up during Lent or volunteering for chores and tasks to help their friends and family.

The money raised was donated to Tarporley War Memorial Hospital by some of the Cubs who took part.

Akela of the Wednesday pack Penny Watson said: “We raised a fantastic total of £421 across both packs. The Cubs felt they wanted to support this worthwhile local cause, as most had either used the hospital themselves or knew somebody in their family who had.”
