Christmas has officially arrived in Chester and city photographer Mark Carline has captured its very spirit with this gallery of fabulous pictures.

A magical 'Twelve Days of Christmas' themed parade, organised by CH1CHesterBID , made its way through the city last Thursday evening (November 17) where an estimated 15,000 spectators bustled into the centre to witness the festive spectacle.

The Christmas lights came to life as the parade proceeded through the city streets, starting at Chester Town Hall and making its way down Werburgh Street, Eastgate Street, Bridge Street, Pepper Street, St John Street, then under the clock back towards Eastgate Street and Northgate Street before returning to Chester Town Hall.

The parade was then greeted by Santa Claus waving to the crowds on the roof of the Town Hall followed by a firework display.

The Christmas market even opened on the night, one day earlier than planned, which added to the festive spirit thanks to stall holders and the dry weather.

A magical 25 ft high twinkling star also now spectacularly stands in the grounds of Chester Cathedral where 19,000 lights caught the attention of the crowds on the night.
