A STUDENT from Russia has earned a place at Oxford after scooping four grade As in his A-levels.

Valentine Kozin, 17, achieved the dream result after moving to North-wich with his scientist dad Igor and graphic designer mum Tanya so he could pursue his studies at St Nicholas RC High School in Hartford.

The family checked out other high schools and educational establishments but came to the conclusion that St Nick's was the best.

They moved from Russia several years ago and had previously lived in Coventry and Scotland.

A fluent English speaker, Valentine sat the exams earlier than most and admits he was taken by surprise to get straight As in English Literature, Maths, Further Maths and Physics.

'I am absolutely thrilled to bits,' he said. 'I had no idea I would do so well. It was always an ambition of mine to get into Oxford.'

A talented all-rounder, he plans to study maths and philosophy and eventually hopes to pursue a career in computer games design.

But he says he has no plans to return to Russia especially as it would mean being conscripted for national service and is looking forward to settling down over here.
