Firefighters paddled to the rescue of an injured swan on a lake in Broxton .

They embarked on an inflatable raft to save the bird, which had damaged its wing, on Sunday (October 18).

This is the second daring rescue in the space of a week after Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service also helped a cow stuck in a Saighton pond on Thursday .

A passer-by spotted the stricken swan on the lake off Whitchurch Road shortly after 1pm.

An RSPCA spokeswoman said: “The RSPCA was called after a swan with an injured wing was seen by a member of the public.

“The swan was rescued with the help of Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service and is now being cared for at a specialist wildlife centre.
