A stick-wielding robber attacked a shopper in Upton and stole a bag stuffed with cash.

The balaclava-clad thief then jumped into a getaway car driven by an accomplice and fled the scene in Weston Grove.

Cheshire Police have launched an appeal to find the offender.

A 49-year-old man was out shopping when he was approached by the masked robber at 3pm on December 21.

The suspect hit his victim on the hand with a stick, causing him to drop the bag he was carrying, which contained cash.

After grabbing the bag, the thief bolted into a silver Ford Kuga driven by a second man and they sped off towards the A41.

The car was later found abandoned in Alwyn Gardens, Upton.

DC Steve Owens said: “The victim received minor injuries to his hand during the incident and was left shaken by his ordeal.

“I am appealing to anyone who may have been in the area at the time and may have seen the incident, or saw the vehicle abandoned.”

The offender is described as white, 5ft 10in to 6ft tall and of slim to medium build. He was wearing a black jacket and a black balaclava.
