Chester Cathedral may not be the final frontier but it provided a perfect pit-stop for sci-fi star George Takei last week.

American Mr Takei, an actor, director and author best known for his role as Hikaru Sulu, helmsman of the USS Enterprise in the television series Star Trek, was visiting Chester when he decided to pay the cathedral a visit.

Mr Takei enjoyed the brand new visitor attraction, Cathedral at Height, and took in views of the city in the sunshine from the top of the central tower before enjoying a

bite to eat at The Refectory, and taking away a goodie bag from the Gift Shop.

Visitor and Heritage Manager, Nick Fry told The Chronicle: “We were delighted to welcome George to the cathedral.

“It was an honour to meet him and we are so pleased he enjoyed his tour and his time in the building. It certainly brightened up our day!

“The Cathedral at Height tour isn’t for the faint hearted and has only just opened – so you might say Mr Takei boldly went where no man has been before!”
