CONSERVATIVE Party chairman Caroline Spelman visited an under-threat post office to offer her support.

Mrs Spelman went to Overton Post Office where she met sub-postmistress Gill Worrall, staff and customers.

The proposed closure is part of a Government decision to close up to 2,500 post offices across the country.

Mrs Spelman said: “Overton Post Office is a great example of a professionally run business that provides a valuable service to the people of Overton and beyond. It provides an excellent service at the heart of the community, it would be a travesty if this post office were to close.”

Cllr Graham Evans, the Conservative prospective parliamentary candidate for Weaver Vale, who hosted the visit, said: “I am delighted that the chairman came up to see for herself the possible effects that the post office cuts are having on Cheshire communities. Ten post offices have already closed in Weaver Vale since Labour came to power, I am very concerned that more closures are threatened across Cheshire.”
