ROSE Queen celebrations got under way in Ashton Hayes after two youngsters were fitted with their crowns.

Mollie Stradling and Emma Varey were unveiled as rose queen and rose bud as final preparations are made before this weekend’s event.

The annual procession of floats will start at 10.30am before celebrations and various events are to be held at St John’s Church and the vicarage lawn.

A barbecue and cakes will be available from 12.30pm while other attractions include: raffle, green/recycled stall, sweets and children’s tombola, a cake stall, games and a tour of the church tower with the chance to ring the bell.

There will also be a fancy dress competition with this year’s theme being ‘story characters’.

Organiser Liz Weston said: “The procession of floats will leave Village Farm in Church Road and will tour the village before arriving at the church for the crowning ceremony.

“The rose queen and rosebud, along with their retinues, will then process on to the vicarage lawn, where photographs can be taken.Š

“The church has been decorated by local organisations and is well worth a visit.”
