Hundreds of people visited St John the Baptist Church Guilden Sutton in the week June 20-26 for the celebrations of the 200th anniversary of the church building.

The church was beautifully decorated with flower arrangements sponsored by many groups and businesses from the village community. A history exhibition told the story of St John’s from medieval times to the present day.

The church was packed for a concert featuring performances by many village members. A celebration service was attended by the Lord Mayor of Chester Hugo Deynem, Lady Mayoress Deb Deynem and Chris Matheson MP, and the sermon was preached by the Archdeacon of Chester, Michael Gilbertson.

Revd Mark Hart, rector of Guilden Sutton and Plemstall, said, “It was really encouraging to see the church and community work together to create a celebration of such high standard, and for it to attract so much interest from the village and beyond.”

The exhibition will be on display again at Guilden Sutton Village Fete, to be held on Saturday, July 11, 1-5pm on the school field.
