A SWIMMER who had a liver transplant at the age of two has been given Gold Star sponsorship to help him get to Australia and compete in the World Transplant Games.

Helsby High pupil and keen swimmer Callum Teasdale, 13, of Fluin Lane, needs to raise £5,000 to be able to represent Great Britain at the World Transplant Games in Australia this August and Vale Royal Borough Council is helping achieve his dream.

Mayor Cllr Malcolm Gaskill, said: “It was a great honour to be able to present Callum with the Gold Star sponsorship.

“I am delighted the council could help in a small financial way towards his trip and I wish him all the best for the future.”

Year 9 pupil Callum has been asked to represent Great Britain at the games – held once every two years for hundreds of athletes from all over the world – and is currently training at least four times a week.

Adele Teasdale, Callum’s mum, said: “We’re all really proud of Callum and excited to see him compete in the World Transplant Games in Australia. I want to thank Vale Royal Borough Council for supporting him.”
