TWO hundred solar panels were proposed on the roof of a poultry shed.

The installation was put forward at Manor Farm, Moor Lane, Hapsford, by H and P G Schofield.

Planning officers at Cheshire West and Chester Council were told the equipment would be laid out in three rows on the south facing roof of the building set in the green belt.

No representations were made by neighbours who were consulted on the application.

The benefits associated with the increased production of energy from renewable sources could be classed as very special circumstances which would justify development in the green belt, planners pointed out.

The equipment would have only a limited effect on the character of the surrounding area as it would be screened by the roof of an adjacent poultry shed.

Due to its location and size it would not be detrimental to the character of the landscape.

There would be no effect on the residential amenity of surrounding properties.

The application was recommended for approval on the basis the effect on the openness of that part of the borough's green belt at was overcome by the benefits of the renewable energy.

The borough council agreed the installation could have permission.
