ALMOST 60 new homes have approval, including affordable properties, on Chester's outskirts.

The development is proposed by Goldrock Investments Ltd on land at 142 High Street, Saltney.

The scheme will see detached, semi-detached and mews type homes, 17 of which will be affordable.

There will also be a village green.

Cllr Klaus Armstrong-Braun raised a number of objections, describing the design as “appallingly trashy" but the development was welcomed by Saltney Town Council.

Regeneration specialists also welcomed the scheme which they said would redevelop the large, vacant site.

Neighbours sent in four objections raising concerns including increased traffic, overlooking and loss of privacy.

The land is occupied by a large detached property and its outbuildings together with large industrial buildings which formed part of the St David's Retail Park and former allotments, says the report.

It adjoins the Chester to Holyhead railway and was previously part of a much larger scheme.

County planners say the homes will be similar to those on new developments on Boundary Lane.

There will be no significant effect on occupiers on High Street.

Recommending the application should be approved, planners argued the development would regenerate the area.

Flintshire County Council's planning and development control committee agreed that permission could be granted.
