TRUE Blue Toffees fan Mike Gavin proved he was spot on to win £1,000.

Mike bagged the cash prize when he was picked to take part in a penalty shoot-out at his beloved Goodison Park during the half-time break at Good Friday's Everton v Tottenham match.

The rules of the game are to either save or shoot for cash success and, just like his team, the 19-year-old came out trumps by hitting the net.

But the modest engineer hasn't let his scoring success go to his head and plans to spend the money on his next season ticket.

Mike, of Osprey Close in Runcorn, said: 'I've followed Everton ever since I was a child, and it's always been my dream since I was a kid to go on the pitch.

'I've been a ticket holder for 13 seasons now and I am delighted with the win.

'I intend to pay for a ticket for both my dad, and two brothers as well.'

The Pay the Penalty competition is the brainchild of Peter Farrell, with people paying £1 to enter. The idea has proved so popular that clubs such as Liverpool and Tranmere may also take it up.

Peter, a welder from Bebington in Wirral, intends to put some of the money back in the pot to support Everton's youth academy.

He said: 'The competition works by pulling out two tickets like a raffle draw, one for the goalkeeper and one for the shooter.

'I'll be putting some of the proceeds back into the game as I think it's very important to get behind the likes of the Wayne Rooneys of this world, and it would be fantastic to be able to support up-and-coming stars.'
