Children at a village school were not only able to put away their uniform for a day - they were also encouraged to go wild with their hair and make-up as part of an unusual fundraising event.

Youngsters from Shocklach Oviatt CE Primary were taking part in a Crazy Hair and Painted Faces Day in the build up to the village church fete which takes place this Saturday (June 25) at Grafton Hall in Tilston.

Children were allowed to come to school wearing the most imaginative crazy hair and painted faces but in return they had to pay a tariff of one bottle of wine.

So now the school is stocked up and ready to go for what they hope will be a successful occasion.
