A second person has been arrested in connection with fires started at Ellesmere Port greyhound stadium on three consecutive nights.

The derelict building in Thornton Road went up in flames three times this week.

A 15-year-old boy was arrested on Friday over the blazes.

Ellesmere Port Local Policing Unit tweeted on Sunday (April 17) to say a second male had been taken into custody in connection with the fires 'as well as other offences'.

In the latest blaze on April 14 a number of youths were seen entering the derelict building and officers had also urged parents to make sure they knew what their children were up to.

Detective Sergeant Rob Grantham said: "We are appealing for anyone who has witnessed any of the incidents, knows who is responsible, or has any information, which might assist with our enquiries, to get in touch.

"Even the smallest amount of information can be useful when piecing together a case.

"Disused or derelict buildings should never be entered without permission, as they are generally a dangerous environment – add to that the fire element and it is a very worrying situation."
