A PRIMARY school has installed a set of noticeboards to promote eco awareness after a pupil won £400 in an international drawing competition.

Saighton Primary School used the prize money awarded to Year 6 pupil Georgina Tidman when she scooped the top prize in a competition by drawing a picture of one of her friends.

Headteacher Mavis Sellers said: “We wanted to use Georgina’s prize money on something special and a little bit different.

“As part of our work to make the children aware of what they can do to address global issues and take some responsibility for their environment last year we created an outdoor growing area but the walls were bare. We had used pots and planters, but they were all at ground level so we decided to buy four large outdoor display boards, one for each class.

“The children’s work on eco issues can be displayed for the whole school to see in addition to parents and friends. It also spreads the eco message outside the classroom. The children love them and will readily point out their contribution to visitors to the school.”
