SALTNEY Town Council has attacked a decision not to take disciplinary action against one of its own members accused of making a rant on Facebook.

Cllr Ann Moran, of Aled Way, criticised the town authority on the social network just hours after being officially sworn in as a town councillor in January’s meeting.

The town council unanimously agreed to report Cllr Moran to the public services ombudsman for breaching the code of conduct .

But Sam Ward, senior investigator for the public services ombudsman, informed Saltney town clerk Alan Thorniley as the remarks had been made on her private personal page, no further action would be taken.

Saltney Town Mayor Richard Lloyd said: “I am very disappointed with this as I thought the remarks were very disrespectful.”

Cllr Derrick Beddow disputed the claim the comments were made on a restricted-access Facebook page, saying the page was publicly accessible at the time.

He added: “I would like to propose the council writes a letter asking for a review of the case, that the matter should be fully investigated.”

The council agreed to ask for a review into the appeal.

When asked by Cllr Lloyd to comment, Cllr Ann Moran replied: “You have highlighted the decision of the ombudsman and I am quite happy to stand by that.”
