A taxi driver has been taken to hospital after driving through barriers closing the road at the level crossing on Green Lane in Saltney .
A workman from Colas Rail speaking at the scene confirmed that the driver of the car had driven through cones closing the road and came to a stop on the level crossing.
Police, a fire engine and an ambulance were called and the driver was taken to hospital. The condition of the driver is not yet known.
The level crossing, which has since been fenced off, remains closed to enable resurfacing work to take place.
Diversions are in place via Circular Drive, Cliveden Road, Hough Green , Chester Road and Boundary Lane.
