A SUMMER playscheme for Saltney Ferry has won funding approval.

Saltney Town Council voted in favour of a playscheme to be held in Billy’s Park, off Ewart Street, to run from July 25 to August 26.

The Flintshire County Council-led playscheme is to receive a £872.04 grant from the town authority.

But the council rejected a similar playscheme which would have been held on the Park Avenue playing fields due to concerns the activities would clash with a programme already planned at the nearby Saltney Youth Centre, funded by the town council.

Saltney Town Mayor Veronica Gay said: “I think we should make it clear why we should not support the other scheme. The dates clashed last year and the youth centre attendance figures dropped significantly when both schemes were on.”

Cllr Derrick Beddow said: “I move we support the Billy’s Park scheme, but in my view it would be a waste of money to support the other one.”
