The Neuro Therapy Centre based in Saltney has been awarded funding for three years to support its physiotherapy service.

The centre provides support and therapies to help manage the symptoms of a wide range of neurological conditions including MS, Parkinson's, MND and ME and supports people from across Cheshire, North Wales and the Wirral.

Although the neurological conditions supported by the centre are often progressive and incurable, many people affected can continue to live independently with regular exercise and physiotherapy.

The Neuro Therapy Centre provides access to regular support and physiotherapy which is not otherwise available in the region.

The funding granted by the Morgan Foundation will provide the charity with £75,000 across three years which will contribute to the centre’s cost of employing qualified neurological physiotherapists to carry out its physiotherapy service.

The centre has been running for more than 30 years and centre manager Jane Johnston-Cree is delighted it has been chosen to receive this support.

She said: “A pledge of annual support really makes a difference to a small charity such as ourselves. Our physiotherapy service is the life blood of the centre and more than 400 people with neurological conditions rely on our group and individual physiotherapy to help manage their conditions.”

The centre offers two types of physiotherapy – group classes which develop people’s core strength to maintain mobility and balance and one-to-one neuro-muscular energising technique sessions which tackle problem areas of joint stiffness, increasing mobility and movement, balance, stamina, muscle group coordination and flexibility.

The physiotherapy team at the centre are able to tailor fitness, exercise and physiotherapy programmes to help people whether they have been recently diagnosed or living with a neurological condition for some time.

“At the centre we promote physical activity in everything that we do. By keeping fit and healthy individuals are encouraged to take a positive attitude towards the management of their condition, allowing them to take control of their lives, rather than their condition controlling them,” said Jane.

The Morgan Foundation was created in 2001 by Steve Morgan CBE with the purpose of supporting charities across North Wales, Merseyside, West Cheshire and North Shropshire. Since 2001 it has committed over £32m of funding.
