OLYMPIC legends will watch sporting history be made while standing on decking made from milk bottles in Saltney.

Decking company Vannplastic Ltd, situated on River Lane is the only UK manufacturer of environmentally friendly wood polymer decking and has won the contract to make the flooring for the exclusive VIP area at the Olympic stadium in London.

The flooring called Ecodek is made from recycled plastic milk bottles which are mixed with wood and melted and moulded into panels for the floor. It is 95% recyclable, non slip and maintenance free all ideal properties for sports stadium flooring.

Despite being the only company in the country to make this product directors Jeff Angove and Alex Collins faced stiff competition from those abroad for the Olympic contract.

Alex said: “Our product had to go through strict and stringent testing to make sure it was suitable for the stadium, it had to be tested to make sure it was DDA compliant, non slippery even suitable for stiletto heels as well as be the right colour.”

Just three weeks ago the deal was secured and they now will make a 39,000 sq m area of Ecodek. This will be fitted to the level two VIP area of the stadium which will be home to commentators, sports stars and other celebrities during the 2012 Olympics.
