RUNCORN, Frodsham and District Soroptimists celebrated International Women’s Day at an event in the centre of Delamere Forest.

They were joined by members from clubs in Nantwich, Northwich, Heswall, Birkenhead, Bebington and Dolgellau and 40 young people from the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme who, together with some members took part in a sponsored walk for Project Sierra and Claire House, children’s hospice.

Regional President Jacquie Weatherill and Federation Councillor Joyce Anderson reminded everyone of the reasons for standing on the bridge. The peace of the forest was in sharp contrast to the situation of many women who are under threat through war or deprivation.

Nantwich members dressed as Suffragettes handed out a scroll to the young women who were there.

The message on the scroll highlighted women’s achievements during the past 100 years and reminded them of ‘much that still needs doing.’
