Robots are being primed for battle in Northwich – all in the name of promoting recycling.

The free ‘Robots Live’ event will be part of Cheshire West and Chester Council’s Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) exhibition on Sunday, January 17.

Aimed at promoting the recycling of electrical goods with the help of the council’s Waste and Recycling team, the exhibition will be held at Memorial Hall Court between 9am and 5pm.

A total of four robot battles will take place throughout the day and there will be plenty of freebies available for visitors such as pens, pencils, memory cards, magnets and car stickers.

Councillor Mark Henesy, Cabinet Member for Environment and Community, said: “This event is a great way to encourage more people to recycle their old waste electrical and electronic equipment.

“There will be something for the whole family to enjoy and get involved in.”

Visitors will be given competition sheets upon arrival and will be able to enter a prize draw to win an iPad.

Tickets are free and can be collected from Memorial Hall Court, Chesterway.

Ticket holders will be encouraged to visit stands displaying recycling information before they go into the event.

These will include a Recycle First Stand, WEEE stand, Changing Lives in Cheshire, Valpak, Cheshire Furniture Reuse Forum and a Robot Live stand, with Dee radio providing the music and entertainment throughout the day.

Every year an estimated two million tonnes of electrical waste items are discarded by householders and companies in the UK.

There are seven Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) across the borough which are accessible to residents who wish to recycle numerous different types of materials.
