MAJOR roadworks are underway at the A49 and A54 junction at Little Budworth .

The junction improvement works which are expected to last until mid April are aimed at improving the junctions safety due to its high accident rate.

Sian Williams, Technical Service Unit, at Cheshire West and Chester Council said: “This junction has been recognised by our Local Safety Section as having a high accident rate mainly due the right turn manoeuvres from the A54 to the A49, also, essential road resurfacing and repair work is required at this junction.”

The works will also include an upgrade of the street lighting together with a new traffic signal layout.

The work will be carried out in phases with different temporary traffic management systems in place during each phase.

Ms Williams said the junction will remain open but there will be a number of traffic signal changes and diversions.

However, the junction and road will be closed over two weekends in March when it will be entirely resurfaced- when a full diversion will be set up. The Highways authority will erect diversion signs and an electronic variable message sign to inform motorists of the proposed road closure.
