FAMILY safety on the roads is the focus of a special event as part of National Road Safety Week next week.

The Cheshire Road Safety Partnership is holding an information day at B&Q, Sealand Road, on Wednesday, November 12 from 10am-3pm.

Titled Family Safety – Protect the Ones You Love the partnership will be offering help and advice about child restraints, the importance of driving slowly in communities, eyesight testing and how to get driving skills checked.

Cheshire County Council’s Road Safety Unit will also have a Fit Safe-Sit Safe display to raise awareness of the dangers of not properly fitting child restraints and to encourage parents to seek specialist advice.

A free child safety seat check will be available from 11am-1pm.

Highways and transportation executive member, Cllr Eveleigh Moore-Dutton said: “Each day on UK roads, nine people are killed and nearly 10 times as many are seriously injured.

“The Cheshire Road Safety Partnership aims to reduce the number and severity of road casualties and to improve safety for all users.

“Now that the nights are drawing in and the wintry weather is here, National Road Safety Week offers us an especially timely opportunity to remind motorists of the importance of being a safe driver.”

National Road Safety Week is co-ordinated by the road safety charity Brake and takes place form November 10-16.
