THE southbound section of the A41 between Ascot Drive and Wetherby Way in Great Sutton, Ellesmere Port is to be closed this Sunday (September 18) for eight days until September 25 so that a kilometre section of road can be resurfaced.

The northbound section will remain open and in the south bound direction traffic will be diverted via the A550 Welsh Road, A540 Parkgate Road and A5117 Shotwick - Frodsham Road.

In addition the junctions with Ascot Drive, Green Lane, Sutton Way, Old Chester Road and Parklands will be closed at various times as the works progress.

Pedestrian access to properties and businesses will be maintained at all times.

Councillor Lynn Riley, executive member for community and environment, said: “Cheshire West and Chester Council would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused during the works which are being carried out because of the poor condition of the section of road in question. It has to be completed before this winter and the time table may change subject to the weather.

“The southbound carriageway is being closed to finish the work as quickly as possible as well as bearing in mind safety of the public and contractor employees.

“Everyone will be working hard to finish this contract as quickly as possible. We are committed to ensuring that west Cheshire’s roads are safe and well maintained.”
