PEOPLE power has persuaded councillors to refuse a controversal planning application to build six affordable homes on the green belt in Delamere.

Linson Construction applied to build the two and three bedroom homes on the land by Rectory farm, on Chester Road just off Station Road in the village.

The application sparked anger amongst villagers who complained it was not appropriate for Delamere and nearly 50 residents wrote to the council objecting to the propasals.

They argued there would not sufficient drainage, the homes should not be built on the green belt and there is not the sufficient infrastructure to support new people in the village.

Dave Wright of Station Road wrote: “Station Road is a very busy road and further traffic would make the crossroads at the Abbey Arms even more treacherous to cross.”

Donald and Christine Whitehead of Station Road added: “Building houses here would change how the area looks and also increase the traffic on an already busy road junction where there have been numerous accidents.”

Delamere Parish Council also objected to the proposal.

Despite officers recommending it be approved councillors voted seven to two to refuse the application because it was contrary to the council’s planning policy and it would harm the green belt.
