COUNCIL bosses are blaming bad weather and unforeseen complications for delaying bridge repairs.
Work on the bridge over the A556 between Chester Road, Hartford, and Whitegate Lane was due to be completed this weekend, before the start of the new school term.
But council chiefs have been forced to extend the work until Friday, September 8, and have apologised to residents for any additional inconvenience caused by the long detours around the area.
Work involves concrete repairs, waterproofing and the renewal of movement joints and has required a further five days' works, so the road will be closed up to and including Friday, September 8.
A Cheshire County Council spokeswoman said unexpected extensive concrete repairs to the deck joints, coupled with poor weather, had caused the problem.
'Measures have been taken to minimise the delay,' she said.
