DANCERS from a Chester- based company that helps recovering addicts will take centre stage in London next week.

Fallen Angels Dance Theatre will perform a 15-minute dance piece entitled Chapter Two: Death of Self at the Recovery Festival at the QEII Conference Centre, just opposite the Houses of Parliament.

The festival has been organised as part of a Government initiative to promote greater understanding among the business community about the process involved in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction.

The ultimate aim of the festival is to forge links between business and those agencies working in the recovery field to foster greater understanding and encourage co-operation.

The invited audience will include Secretary of State for Work and Pensions Iain Duncan Smith and Mitch Winehouse, of the Amy Winehouse Foundation.

Fallen Angels director Paul Bayes Kitcher, a former soloist with Birmingham Royal Ballet, who now lives in Vicars Cross, said: “It’s a fantastic opportunity to showcase the successes we have had in front of an extremely influential audience.

“It’s a celebration of talent and will send the message that people who have battled drug and alcohol addiction and are now in recovery have both talent and ambition.”

The dance company has already attracted media interest.

Last year the Chronicle reported on heavily tattooed former alcoholic Damian Stewart, of Lache, who landed a role in the company’s dance piece Battle for the Soul at The Lowry.

The company’s performance group Risen, whose members are recovering addicts from across the North West, was filmed last week for a BBC Three programme called Free Speech. The show was broadcast last night but is still available on BBC iPlayer and was a precursor to the Give It Up For Comic Relief gig, hosted by Russell Brand.

Fallen Angels company manager Claire Morris said: “We are overwhelmed by the interest in our work. We are hoping that this activity will raise awareness and gather support to enable us to reach out and help more addicts to transform their lives.”
