THE Recorder of Chester, Judge Elgan Edwards, has spoken out against drunken violence.

The comments came as he jailed a 22-year-old man from Ellesmere Port for two years after an unprovoked assault on a 17-year-old boy which left him with a fractured jaw.

Robert Dolan, of West Road, Ellesmere Port, hit out at the boy in Ellesmere Port bus station in September last year because he thought the boy had hit him on the back of the head. He had been drinking at the time of the attack and says the assault was an ‘over-reaction’.

The victim spent two days in hospital where he had an operation and his jaw was wired.

Dolan has ADHD and said he also uses cannabis to control his symptoms.

Judge Edwards told him: “I appreciate the fact that you have problems, but it is not helped by drug-taking or alcohol.

“You behaved like a drunken bully and attacked a 17-year-old boy who was minding his own business.

“There is far too much of this drunken violence in our society and the courts have to take a stand against it.”
