RECORD crowds filled the Bolesworth Estate near Tattenhall, as hundreds turned out for its annual Classic Show.

The four-day equestrian event, held over the Jubilee weekend, has been described as ‘the best show yet’, with an action-packed bill featuring showjumping, helicopter rides and endless family entertainment.

The site’s three showjumping arenas were filled to capacity as international riders vied for the prize money on offer, and so many people turned out to see Saturday’s Eventing Grand Prix that commentator Steven Wilde had to resort to standing on top of a horsebox to get a clear view of the action.

And local riders were in fine form, as the best of the North West came along to support the event.

Winsford-based Ceri Strachan kicked things off by winning the first of 56 classes and Emily Ward from Wirral showed class with her mount King Mac, rising to victory in the European Viewing Trials.

Elsewhere, crowds lined the Castle Arena to see Grand National winner Neptune Collonges making a sensational appearance in support of the chosen charity for Claire House Children’s Hospice.

Families were kept entertained by vintage funfair rides, falconry displays, dog shows and duck races, as well as a Taste Cheshire food village and shopping area.

Saturday evening saw the Bolesworth Estate transformed into a premier party destination at its Big Night Out, which featured a cocktail and caribbean dance party, as well as music from Take That tribute band, Re-Take That.

And the perfect end to the Jubilee weekend was some proper British celebrations, including The Big Lunch, a Cleo B fashion show and some unusual camel racing.

Mark Hayward, who handles marketing for the Bolesworth Classic Show said it was ‘a record weekend in all respects’.

“Despite Sunday's terrible weather, the event was a huge success,” he added.

Claire House Children’s Hospice raised £5,500 from the event.
