A singer was on song at a recent high school musical festival.

Natalie Doyle, of Mold, won the Amy Underhill trophy at The Queen’s School Festival of Music last month.

Natalie, 16, also won the Ann Brotherhood vocal trophy for her intermediate classical and popular vocal performances.

Around 100 musicians took part in the festival, with 17 different instrumental music classes, and a range of performances from jazz and classical to pop and rock.

The judging panel comprised Aidan Bradley, musical director of the Manchester Philharmonic Choir and director of music at Manchester High School for Girls, professional pianist and violinist Claire Dunham and vocal tutor Lucy Knight.

The competition was open to all girls at the senior school with categories in brass, woodwind, piano, strings and vocals.

Acting head of music, Jeanette Healey, said: “It was a privilege to watch the accomplished performances from everyone who took part in the festival. The comments from the adjudicators were extremely encouraging and I'm sure that the girls will make the most of the individual advice given to them.”
