STUDENTS at Queen's Park High School have been busy wrapping presents for the Salvation Army Christmas Appeal.

The appeal provides hampers of Christmas presents to local families and children who may find Christmas is not a time for receiving.

Family support worker Gill Cutler said: “The response from students has been fantastic.

“The school council organised collections and non-uniform events to raise nearly £500 to make Christmas happy time for some who would otherwise have very little.”

Year 11 student Rayana Hyjazie said: “We enjoyed shopping for the presents and the hampers look fantastic.

“It was quite difficult to ensure that we had presents to cover the full range of ages – I would love to be there on Christmas Day when they are opened.”

Each year Queen’s Park High School students raise more than £2,000 for local and international charities and they are planning an ‘X Factor’ type event in March to raise funds for Help for Heroes.

A spokesman for the school said: “We see fundraising as an important part of the personal and social education programme.”
