FOUR friends from Frodsham and surrounding area are in training for their charity 10k run.

Karen Applegate, Mark Antrobus, Frank Keeffe and David Vickers are warming up for the Great Manchester Run on May 26 to raise funds for the Manchester-based Christie charity and the Hospice of the Good Shepherd at Backford.

Karen, owner of Applegate and Co accountants in the town, said: “This run is about giving something back. Cancer has touched us as a family quite heavily and the Hospice of the Good Shepherd, which does excellent work, depends heavily on donations.”

Karen, 49, from Dairy Bank, Elton, said her partner’s mother had recovered from throat cancer, while his sister was in remission after being treated for breast cancer.

Married father-of-two Mark Antrobus, 39, from Elton, is taking part after his father-in-law, Barrie Tonks, died on February 8 after a year-long battle with non- Hodgkins lymphoma cancer.

Mark, a community safety supervisor with Cheshire police covering Halton, said: “My friend Karen was aware of my father-in law’s diagnosis and she invited me to join her in the 10k run. It was a wonderful opportunity to support both Christie’s and the Hospice of the Good Shepherd and therefore it was an event I wanted to be part of.”

David Vickers, 44, who lives in Delamere Park and is director at Design Co UK Limited, is taking part in memory of a friend who died from a brain tumour.

Frank Keeffe, 47, from Townfield Lane, Frodsham, who owns plumbing and heating maintenance company Ark Services, said family members had died because of cancer but he also wanted ‘to give something back’.
